For the Commodore 64 โ€“ A relaxing, handcrafted fishing journey

Leave the chaos behind. No battles. No guns. No game over screens with blood and flames. Just you, your fishing rod, and the peaceful rhythm of nature.

Fish Tycoon is a slow-paced, non-violent simulation game designed exclusively for the Commodore 64. In this meditative experience, youโ€™ll manage your fuel, bait, and fishing line as you travel across lakes, rivers, and open seas in search of the perfect catch.

๐ŸŒŠ A Game for Peaceful Souls

This isnโ€™t about speed or reflexes. Itโ€™s about sitting down, breathing deep, and enjoying a moment of calm. Whether you're casting your line in the lake or setting out to sea, each decision is yours to make — with no rush and no pressure.

  • โš“ Navigate between port, lake, river, and sea

  • ๐ŸŽฒ Engage in turn-based fishing with dice-driven outcomes

  • ๐Ÿง  Strategize your supplies to stay afloat and keep fishing

  • ๐ŸŽฎ Use joystick for simple, intuitive control

๐ŸŽจ A Digital Work of Art

Fish Tycoon was built with the care of a craftsman. Every pixel was placed by hand. Every PETSCII graphic, color, and word was selected to maximize what the C64 can offer. Itโ€™s not just a game — itโ€™s a love letter to retro computing.

๐Ÿ’พ Your Journey Never Ends

Unlike many retro games, Fish Tycoon includes a code-based resume system: Write down your code at the end of a session, and you can continue right where you left off — next time, next day, next week. This is not a one-shot arcade challenge — itโ€™s a fishing journey that grows over time.

๐Ÿ’™ Keep the C64 Alive

By playing Fish Tycoon, you're not just enjoying a relaxing game — you're supporting the homebrew scene and helping to keep the Commodore 64 alive for future generations. Your interest fuels more games, more creativity, and more love for this legendary machine.

๐ŸŸ Sit back. Cast your line. And find joy in simplicity.

๐ŸŽฎ How to Play

Requirements

  • A Commodore 64 emulator (recommended: VICE)

  • Or a real C64 with support for loading .PRG or .D64 files

Basic Controls

  1. Launch the game on your emulator or C64 hardware.

  2. Use a joystick in port 2 to navigate the menu.

  3. Move left or right to switch between available actions.

  4. Press the FIRE button to confirm your selection.

 Game Objective

  • Manage your resources: money, fuel, bait, and fishing line.

  • Travel to different fishing spots — lake, river, or sea.

  • Catch fish and sell them to increase your funds.

  • Avoid running out of essential supplies. Balance is the key!

Fishing Mechanics

  • Each fishing session begins by randomly selecting a fish with a specific strength value.

  • Youโ€™ll roll a virtual die (handled by the game).

  • If the result is equal or higher than the fishโ€™s strength, you catch it.

  • If the roll is lower, the tension on the line increases.

  • If the tension exceeds the limit, your line may break and the fish escapes!

 Resume Your Game Anytime

At the end of your session, a password/code will be displayed.
Write it down and use it the next time you launch the game to continue right where you left off — no progress lost.

Great! Thank you very much. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Interesting concept, i like the petscii look.

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

Menu control is rather slow. What language/compiler do you use?

(-1)

I'm using C language. The menu control can be configured to get faster. Maybe I'll release a new version with the control a bit faster.

Good job! Fish Tycoon โ€“ Coming Soon!
